An Electrical Warning
Windy Friday
The National Weather Service says today will be windy…enough possibly to cause power outages.
Here are details from the National Weather Service:
“Mason-Lake-Osceola-Clare-Oceana-Newaygo-Mecosta-Isabella-Muskegon- Montcalm-Gratiot-Ottawa-Kent-Ionia-Clinton-Allegan-Barry-Eaton- Ingham-Van Buren-Kalamazoo-Calhoun-Jackson- 401 AM EDT Fri May 4 2018 This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of southwest Lower Michigan. Click here and go to the bottom of the page for the 5-day forecast.
Today and Tonight Scattered power outages are expected today and there is an increased risk for numerous power outages. Winds are likely to reach 55 mph leading to the impacts. Locally higher winds may occur mid to late morning as a cold front and associated showers/thunderstorms pushes through.”
Trees can be stressed under these conditions–limbs or the whole tree may come down taking power lines with them.
If you need help, A Plus Electric is standing by.
The first concern is your safety and those around you. Consumers Energy says “stay at least 25 feet away from a downed wire.” They add “steer clear of water, trees, debris and fences” nearby and contact them as soon as possible (800-477-5050). Carl Evanson, A Plus Electric’s master electrician, adds another note of caution “a downed wire can electrify areas much farther away than you’d guess as electricity disburses in surprising ways. The results can be tragic.”
Consumers Energy is responsible to repair a downed wire up to the point where it touches your house. If any part of the lead-in to your house is damaged, you will need to call an electrician. That includes the mast. You can reach A Plus Electric at (517) 529-0000 or by pressing the emergency button on the main page of this website using your smartphone.
Need Space for Your Business?
A Plus Electric’s new location is on 127 between Jefferson and Reed Roads (9039 S. Meridian, Clark Lake). The spacious building will not only be headquarters for A Plus Electric’s growing business, but the other half of this prime location is available for lease for the right business or organization (2200 sq ft). In addition to what you’ll learn from the one-minute video, the space features an impressive lobby/greeting area, very nice his and hers bathrooms, plenty of room for multiple office/work spaces or a large “think tank” style environment, and ample (25+) parking spaces.
For more information, contact Jennifer Scanlon at (734) 664-6789, The Brokerage House.
Freezing Rain
The National Weather Service says freezing rain will hit the area from 5 pm today (Saturday 4/14) to tomorrow (Sunday 4/15). They say to expect power outages and tree damage due to ice, and that “travel will be impossible.” Gusty winds add to the hazard. (See complete bulletin below).

Cloth and Kind is a nationally recognized residential and commercial interior design studio. As you will see from their website, Cloth and Kind resides in the high end of interior design world. For their Ann Arbor location, Principle Designers Tami Ramsay and Krista Nye Nicholas selected A Plus Electric for their expertise. For about a week, A Plus installed lighting so clients could see the fixtures as they might appear in a home or commercial setting.
These photos were taken to give you an idea of what’s involved in a project like this. Of course, the finished project will look much different, reflecting the design sensibilities of these nationally acclaimed pros.
To get a clearer picture of what Cloth and Kind does, you can peruse the press they receive. Checking out their website will be a delight for anyone who follows a publication like Architectual Digest.

New Building Sneak Preview
As you may know, A Plus Electric is moving headquarters to the building formerly occupied by the In Good Company restaurant, located on 127 just north of Jefferson Road intersection, Clark Lake. The reason for the move? More space for a growing business.
The A Plus Electric master electrician and owner is Carl Evanson. “When we acquired our present building at the intersection of Hyde and Jefferson Road, our business increased. People like to know their dealing with a solid company, and what’s more solid than brick and mortar?”
Construction continues on converting the space in the new building. One side will serve A Plus Electric’s increased needs. The other side, where the dining room was located, is available for lease to the right tenant.
Would you like a sneak preview of the new digs? In this one minute video, Carl takes you on a tour. In it you’ll see why its well suited to help A Plus Electric provide better than ever service. This “before” video will be followed up with the “after” video when completed (like HGTV without the Property Brothers).
The increased space the new building offers is no small thing. Carl says “we’re able to house major equipment and keep a larger inventory of parts. That will cut down on service time and save customers money.”
A Plus Electric stays on the cutting edge in a rapidly changing world. Along with standard electrical items, there is space for inventory of innovated electronics that create whole-home solutions. Carl explains “we recently contracted with Lutron. They are leaders in connecting lights, cameras, audio and video. Homeowners have control through a simple remote at the house or anywhere in the world via an app on a smartphone.”
Access also improves. “Being on major thoroughfare saves time in arriving at a customer’s home. They know they can depend on us for quick, quality and affordable service. This move boosts each one of those important qualities.”
What about the present location at Jefferson and Hyde Roads? “This is also excellent and usable space–you’ll continue to see our A Plus sign standing guard at that corner.”

New Development at Clark Lake – A Plus Electric to Take Part
A Plus Electric is pleased to announced that it has been named primary electrical contractor for major new project at Clark Lake. Carl Evanson, A Plus Electric master electrician, comments “this new development is amazing, and we’re glad to be part of it.” As you read about this project below, please know that A Plus Electric has been chosen to wire and and otherwise electrify the hotel and underwater infrastructure.
Given the recent changes to their constitution, China has established one-man rule “for life.” This has aggravated concerns among some Chinese billionaires. They are reaching out for investments in the United States to avoid confiscatory monetary policies. One of those investments is coming to Clark Lake.
The Sharkecki Investment Group has plans that strain credulity, but nonetheless are advancing. Before outlining the basics of their project, you will want to know why the investors have an interest in Clark Lake. University anthropologists, archeologists, and geologists combined efforts for an intensive study. The Sharkecki investors learned of this via a highly paid consulting firm that searches academic journals and studies for potential business opportunities. Thus, the investors learned of these findings before local media.
The results of the study are breathtaking. Uncovered is surprising evidence of early life at Clark Lake–and this evidence is underwater. The researchers found that at one time there was a prosperous settlement in what is now lake bed. Divers found relics and artifacts, including remains of sophisticated buildings primarily located in the deepest section of the lake—off what is now call Hancock Point at the east end. The remains suggest advanced construction techniques. While the buildings are no longer complete, it doesn’t take much imagination to see how this settlement was laid out. Any visitor to Pompeii in Italy could see the parallels.
So, what are the investors’ plans? Their ambitious intent is to build an underwater Plexiglas tunnel so that this ancient settlement can be viewed. Though the heart of the artifacts are at the east end, more are scattered throughout other deep waters of the lake. Thus, they plan that this tunnel will start in the area of the County Park and run the entire length of the lake and exit nearby the west end boat launch.
The tunnel will form a circle around a very deep hole found by divers near Hancock Point. Geologists believe that this was a community well and is surrounded by buildings. Present day stories at the lake about a deep hole in that area are apparently not fiction. Divers previously have never fully probed the hole because of its unknown depth. The amateurs may have found the deep hole, but missed the archeological find.
Tunnel construction details include an essential “breathing hole” midway between Kentucky and Eagle Points. A small island will be constructed where a massive fan will draw air from both ends of the tunnel. HVAC will keep temperatures moderate—between 55 and 60 degrees year around.
A Plus Electric will install LED spotlights that will highlight treasures along the path. Relics on the bottom from the current era, such as steamships that once roamed the lake and the Chris Craft that nosedived near Eagle Point in the 1930s, will have the muck blown away so they, too, can be viewed. Visitors can either walk from end of the lake to the other or rent the electric golf carts. The investors envision an underwater museum.
Sharkecki also has a business plan. Admission will not be free, except for two passes per year per lakefront property. Although they have not set ticket prices, they are examining peripheral cash generators. They are currently purchasing a piece of property along Riverside Road with the intent to build a ten story hotel that would include a large parking lot for visitors. They intend to shuttle people from the parking area to the east end entrance and pick them up at the west end at the conclusion of the tour.
The results of the combined efforts of anthropologists, archeologists and geologists on Clark Lake history are truly fascinating. Scrolls have been recovered that tell the story of life and history of the settlement. A rough translation of the settlement’s name should send shivers as it is so remarkably close to the lake’s current name—Clarkatola. There is much more to learn about this find–and the anticipated development. As information becomes available, more will be included in future reports on this website.

Smoke Detectors Recalled
Due to possible failure, Kidde has recalled certain smoke detectors it manufactured. Does your smoke detector look like this?
The defective detectors are these:
If you have one of these, the US Product Safety Commission recommends you “should remove the alarm from the wall/ceiling and visually inspect it through the opening on the side of the alarm for the presence of a yellow cap. Consumers should not attempt to take apart the alarm, open the casing, or otherwise remove the yellow cap themselves.”
The yellow cap indicates the alarm may not function. Don’t be lulled into false security. A Plus Electric is standing by to help. Call 517-529-0000 and receive an estimate on a reliable replacement.

Community Commitment
From the A Plus Electric Community Commitment Department
Reading Writing Connection, a local non-profit, had a problem. To meet code, two new exit signs were required. They had the signs–but how to get them in the right place and properly powered to satisfy regulations?
A call to A Plus Electric’s Carl Evanson got it done. Carl says “we dispatched a crew and now the signs are in the right place and lighted.”
Community commitment runs in the Evanson family. Carl’s mother, Nancy, taught school for many years in the Napoleon district. She saw first hand how many kids had big challenges with reading and writing, essential skills in life. Upon retirement, she developed a reading program and named it “Bag of Books.” Today it’s part of area school libraries.
Nancy Evanson was also a moving force in creating the Reading Writing Connection on Horton Road. Recognizing parental anguish over kids who are having reading problems, they wanted to offer help. “We want our children to feel comfortable and successful when they read, and to love reading. The Reading Writing Connection treats every child (and adult) as an individual and provides specialized instruction designed specifically for you or your child.”
Carl, his family, and technicians are all part of the local community, and care deeply for the place they call home. A Plus Electric is dedicated to supporting the community’s growth, prosperity, and well-being of its residents.
